In a favela in Brazil, there was a store selling pastel made of bamboo shoots and cheese. The store was run by a Japanese couple, and since they could speak Japanese, there were many Japanese American customers.
One day, a Japanese tourist man came to the store. He was fluent in Japanese and enjoyed talking with the couple. He had found the store by chance during his trip and ordered a pastel of bamboo shoots and cheese.
While eating the pastel, the man enjoyed talking with the couple at the restaurant. They talked about their life in Brazil and told him about the realities of the favela.
The man said that he too had visited a favela in Brazil during his travels. However, the favela he visited had few stores and he could not buy food. Hearing this, the couple at the store gave the man many pastels as an extra gift.
The man was surprised. He had never received so many extras before. And as he ate the pastel, he felt that the couple at this store were truly wonderful people.
He continued to visit this store many times during his travels in Brazil. And before he returned home, he bought many souvenirs to present to the couple as a token of his appreciation.
And the man could not forget the pastels from this store even after he returned to Japan. He tried to find pastel of bamboo shoots and cheese in Japan, but it was not as good as the real taste.
So, the man decided to make his own pastel. He went through many trials and errors to reproduce the authentic taste, using ingredients and recipes he bought in Brazil.
Finally, the man succeeded in recreating the authentic taste. He shared the taste with his friends and family and received rave reviews from everyone.
The man felt that what he had learned from the couple at that restaurant had been a truly valuable experience for him. He then wrote a letter to that store to return the favor he had received.
In the letter, he thanked the wonderful people he had met during his trip to Brazil and described the taste of the pastel he had recreated.
